Zimbabwe make history with innings victory over Bangladesh
Zimbabwe created history by defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in the one-off Test, completing the match in three days. This is the first time in Test cricket that Zimbabwe have won two consecutive matches by an innings.
After defeating Afghanistan by an innings last October, the hosts maintained their momentum with this victory, which ranks among the biggest in their Test history. This was also Bangladesh's first innings defeat in Zimbabwe in 25 years, with the last such loss occurring in 2001.
Zimbabwe laid the foundation for victory on the very first day. The hosts' pace attack bowled Bangladesh out for just 140 runs in the first innings. In reply, Innocent Kaia's century quickly wiped out that deficit.
Kaia was named Player of the Match for his 140-run innings. With half-centuries from Wesley Madhevere, Craig Ervine and Brian Bennett, Zimbabwe posted 410 runs in their first innings, taking a massive 270-run lead that effectively decided the match.
Facing the mountain of a lead, Bangladesh failed to build a resistance in the second innings, bowled out for 185 under the controlled bowling of Blessing Muzarabani. Mushfiqur Rahim's 34 was the top score, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 30, and debutant Amit Hasan scored 25.
Muzarabani took four wickets for 65 runs, Richard Ngarava took three for 32, and Newman Nyamhuri claimed two wickets.
