‘Zootopia 2’ soars to Disney’s all-time animated box office high
Disney’s animated blockbuster ‘Zootopia 2’ has become the highest-grossing animated film in the studio’s history, collecting in $1.46 billion worldwide. The film surpasses the $1.45 billion record set by 2019’s ‘Frozen 2’.
Released five weeks ago, ‘Zootopia 2’ maintained strong box office performance during the holiday season, earning $87.9 million over the final weekend alone. The film also reached the $1 billion milestone in just 17 days, setting a new record for the fastest-grossing PG-rated animated movie.
The film achieved remarkable success in China, generating over $500 million, the highest total ever for a US release in the country.
Analysts note that aside from Disney’s recent hit ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, no other recent release has come close to this level of global success.
Since its December 19 release, ‘Zootopia 2’ has dominated international markets, contributing a substantial portion of its record-breaking revenue.
Globally, only three films this year have crossed the $1 billion mark: ‘Zootopia 2’, Disney’s live-action remake ‘Lilo & Stitch’, and China’s animated sequel ‘Ne Zha 2’.
