1 arrested with local weapons at Suhrawardy Udyan
A man was arrested for carrying country-made weapons during the Islami Andolan Bangladesh rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
The individual was detained by fellow rally participants and handed over to the police, confirmed Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur.
According to the OC, the man was caught carrying a knife and was taken into police custody for further investigation.
The rally, organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh, began at 10.00am with a Quran recitation and drew leaders and activists from various districts and metropolitan areas. The main session started at 2.00pm, presided over by the party's Ameer, Charmonai Pir Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim.
The party's demands include comprehensive reforms at all levels of government, judicial independence, and the introduction of a proportional representation electoral system. Party officials also announced a nationwide campaign aiming to mobilise one million participants for the rally.
