1 dead, 19 injured as bus overturns in Mymensingh
A passenger bus overturned in Mymensingh on Wednesday morning, leaving one dead and at least 19 others injured. The accident occurred after the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The incident took place around 7:45 AM near the China Mor area, in front of a gasoline filling station.
The deceased was identified as Md. Manjurul Hasan, 41, a resident of Sreebordi in Sherpur. He was working as the bus’s helper.
According to Md. Firoz Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, the Junaid Express bus was en route to Dhaka from Sherpur when it lost control, mounted the road divider, and overturned. Manjurul Hasan died at the scene.
Local residents rushed to help, transporting the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Md. Shafiqul Islam, in charge of the hospital police camp, confirmed that 19 injured passengers were brought in. Seven of them, including a child, have been admitted for further treatment.
Police suspect the accident was caused by the driver falling asleep. He fled the scene and has yet to be located. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
