1 dies with Measles symptoms, 11 children hospitalised in Bogura
Bogura has recorded the death of a 10-month-old child exhibiting measles symptoms, while 11 other children remain hospitalised with similar symptoms. Additionally, two children have tested positive for measles but are currently recovering, the Health Department confirmed.
The deceased child was admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC) on March 31 and passed away early Wednesday morning.
Md. Monjur Murshed, deputy director at SZMC, stated that all hospitalised children’s samples have been collected for testing, though no positive results have been confirmed yet.
SM Noor-e-Shadid, deputy civil surgeon at SZMC, noted that the cases emerged over the past 8–10 days and attributed the spike to seasonal changes from winter to early summer, which often increase viral infections.
He confirmed that Bogura has no shortage of measles vaccines, with regular immunization programs ongoing and 5,000 doses reserved for emergencies. An additional 14 samples are scheduled for laboratory testing soon.
Currently, children showing measles symptoms are being treated in the hospital’s isolation ward.
