1 gets life term for raping 2 children in Khulna

A Khulna court has sentenced a Mahendra driver named Hiru Mia to life imprisonment for raping two children at Khalishpur in the divisional city.

At the same time, the court also fined him Tk 50,000, and in default, he has to serve six months of imprisonment.

Judge Abdus Salam Khan of Khulna Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 delivered the verdict on Sunday (March 3) afternoon.

Convict Hiro Mia is absconding, said Advocate Farid Ahmed, the public prosecutor (PP) of the court.

Citing the court documents, the PP said on October 27, 2020, neighbour Hiru Mia raped a 10-year-old hearing-impaired child and another girl of the same age after luring them to play ludu.

Later, the father of a child filed a case as the plaintiff with Khalishpur police station on the day of the incident. The investigating officer of the case later submitted the charge sheet to the court, accusing Hiru Mia of the misconduct.

After hearing the testimony of 10 witnesses, the court announced this verdict.
