Police have detained a young man named Babul in connection with the gruesome murder of Abdus Sattar, 90, an adviser to Ward 19 of the Sylhet city unit of the banned Awami League and a former director of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with his wife Suraiya Begum and housemaid Malu Begum in the Raynagar area of Sylhet city.

He was detained from the Raynagar area around 6pm on Wednesday (August 12).

Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, police recovered the slit-throat bodies of the three victims from a residence in the Raynagar Mitali Residential Area, creating a massive stir in the neighborhood upon the news spreading.

According to a police source, various pieces of evidence have been collected from the crime scene, and the detained individual, Babul, is currently being interrogated. Authorities are looking into his involvement in the killings and the motives behind the crime.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the three victims have been sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsies. Police stated that further details regarding whether others were involved will be confirmed following a thorough investigation.
