1 killed, 11 injured as vehicle falls into ditch in Sajek

A tragic accident claimed the life of a Khulna University student when a vehicle carrying a group of students fell into a deep ditch while traveling to Sajek. The incident also left 11 others injured.

The accident occurred around Wednesday noon in the Houspara area of Sajek, according to Amena Marzana, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Baghaichhari.

The deceased has been identified preliminarily as Pinky, a student of Khulna University.

“A group of students from Khulna University were traveling from Khagrachhari to Sajek in a jeep,” said the UNO. “While climbing a steep hill in the Houspara area, the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into a deep ditch. There were 12 passengers in the vehicle. Pinky died on the spot.”

Following the accident, the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue the injured. The victims were taken to Dighinala Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.

Kanan Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of Sajek Police Station, confirmed that the deceased’s body has been sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
