1 killed, 6 injured as truck rams stationary bus on Dhaka-Mawa expressway

A man was killed and six others injured when a speeding truck crashed into the rear of a stationary passenger bus on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway early Friday morning.

The fatal accident occurred around 5:30 AM near the Kamarkhola Bridge in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Kuddus, also known as Chan Mia, 70, son of Abdur Rahman of Char Sreerampur in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila.

According to police and fire service officials, the passenger bus was en route from Dhaka to Atroshi in Faridpur stopped near the slope of the Kamarkhola Bridge when the truck, loaded with goods and heading towards Mawa, collided into its rear.

“One person died on the spot and several others were injured in the crash,” said Dewan Azad Hossain, an officer of the Srinagar Fire Service Station. Firefighters rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, who were later taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex.

Hospital authorities confirmed receiving six injured passengers, three of whom were later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to critical injuries.

The injured were identified as Ashraful Islam (40), Helal Uddin (34), Hazera Khatun (50), Arshed Ali (50), and Md Sohel (30) — all hailing from different areas of Mymensingh.

Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kader Jilani of Hasara Highway Police Station confirmed that both vehicles were cleared from the expressway shortly after the accident, and traffic flow has since returned to normal.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
