1 killed, 8 injured in head-on bus collision in Chattogram

One person was killed and eight others injured in a head-on collision between buses in Patiya upazila of Chattogram.

The accident took place around 9:30am on Wednesday at Jalurdighi Para on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Arkan Road.

The deceased has been identified as Banshi Mohan Das, 50, was a resident of Lohagara upazila.

The injured include Mohammad, 50, Zainal, 30, Mintu Das, 19, Anowar, 38, Nurul Alam, 29, Taher, 46, Tipu Chowdhury, 36, and Shirin Akter, 47.

A team from Patiya Fire Service rescued the victims and transported the injured to Patiya Upazila Health Complex. Six of the injured were later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to the police, thick smoke from burning straw along the roadside severely reduced visibility. During this, two buses of Eagle Transport collided head-on, while a Marsa Transport bus lost control and crashed into a roadside pillar, causing it to overturn.

Confirming the fatality, Patiya Crossing Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Harunur Rashid said, "Three damaged vehicles have been cleared from the road to restore traffic flow."
