1 lakh Yaba pills seized in BGB-police operations in Ukhiya

A total of one lakh Yaba pills have been seized in two separate operations by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. However, no one involved in drug trafficking was arrested in these incidents. The operations were conducted on Monday night (August 31) in the Faisha canal and Narikelbagan areas adjacent to the Balukhali border in Ukhiya.

According to Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), a special patrol team of Balukhali BOP was performing regular duties around 8pm on Monday. At that time, an individual was seen entering Bangladesh by boat from the Myanmar side in the Faisha canal area, south of Balukhali BSP post. When the BGB patrol team challenged him, the person jumped off the boat and swam back towards Myanmar territory. Later, a search of the abandoned boat uncovered 90,000 Yaba pills and a button mobile phone hidden in a wooden box in a specially concealed manner.

Additionally, around 9pm, based on intelligence provided by Ukhiya Police, a joint team of BGB and police conducted an operation in the Narikelbagan area. During the operation, another 10,000 Yaba pills were recovered from under a waterlogged area. However, no one was arrested this time as well.

Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) Commander Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam said BGB surveillance has been intensified to prevent drug trafficking and illegal infiltration through the border. Operations will continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies to identify and bring those involved in drug supply under the law.
