10 burned in Cox's Bazar gas pump explosion
At least 10 people were burned in an explosion at an LPG gas pump in the Kalatali area of Cox's Bazar town. The fire spread to nearby houses and many cars in a garage were damaged after the incident.
The explosion occurred around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (February 25). The fire was brought under control around 1:45 am on Thursday.
The 10 burned people were admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. From there, 9 people were sent to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He said that financial assistance will be provided for the treatment of the injured.
Police said the explosion occurred at the recently opened N Alam LPG gas pump located on the eastern side of the hotel-motel zone in Kalatali. Gas leakage from the pump tank in the evening caused the fire. Employees brought it under control with sand and water. Later, around 9:30pm, there was a loud explosion and the fire quickly spread in all directions.
Deputy Commissioner Md. A. Mannan said that at least nine units of the army, air force, police and fire service worked together to bring the fire under control. Several houses were damaged in the fire.
At least 30 private cars and microbuses kept in a garage adjacent to the pump were burnt. Garage worker Nurul Alam said, 'More than 30 vehicles were burnt one by one in the fire that spread from the pump.'
During the incident, residents in the area left their homes in panic and moved to safer places.
