10 Chhatra Dal leaders beaten in Satkhira, hospitalized

Allegations have emerged of an attack on 10 leaders and activists, including Manjurul Alam Bappi, Vice-President of the district Chhatra Dal, in Satkhira over a call record. The injured individuals have been admitted to Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Police have arrested two people in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred around 9:30pm on Saturday, August 8, in the Ghona area of Sadar upazila .

Among the injured are District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Manjurul Alam Bappi, his elder brother Rajib Hossain, Abdur Rakib, Bakul Haider, Jahid Hasan, Chhatra Dal leader Abdus Salam, Tohidul Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan.

Injured Chhatra Dal leader Manjurul Alam Bappi alleged that a call record of Nazmul Hasan, a banned Chhatra League leader in the Ghona area, came into their hands on Saturday. He claimed the call record contained derogatory remarks about a Chhatra Dal leader and BNP. Bappi alleged that when Ghona Union Chhatra Dal President Jahid Hossain went to Nazmul to find out about the matter, he was detained.

He said upon learning of Jahid Hossain's detention, he went to the spot with several Chhatra Dal leaders and activists. He alleged that local Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked them there . He claimed bamboo sticks and iron rods were used in the attack.

Bappi claimed that he and 10 others were injured in the attack. They were later rescued by locals and taken to Satkhira Medical College Hospital .

Injured Chhatra Dal leader Abdus Salam said, "Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists launched a sudden attack on Chhatra Dal and BNP leaders and activists after coming out of a meeting in Ghona Union. Manjurul Alam Bappi and 10 others were injured in this."

However, several local residents said that upon hearing that Ghona Union Chhatra Dal President Jahid Hossain had been detained over a call record, 10 to 15 leaders and activists, including District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Manjurul Alam Bappi, went there. They said an attack was then launched on them, led by Ghona Union Chhatra League leader Md Nazmul Hasan and his father Lalto Member.

District Chhatra Dal President Abu Rayhan alleged that Chhatra League attacked Chhatra Dal leaders and activists under the shelter of local Jamaat. He condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of those involved.

District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Dudayev Masud Argho said, "Some people from the fascist government have attacked the District Chhatra Dal Vice-President." He condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of those involved.

District BNP Member Secretary Jahid Hasan Dablo said, "A terrorist attack was carried out on Chhatra Dal leader Manjurul Alam Bappi under the leadership of some Awami League leaders." He demanded the swift arrest of the attackers.

Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Masudur Rahman said police visited the spot after receiving the news. Two people have been arrested in connection with the attack. Further details will be provided later.

Tension prevails in the area following the incident. Police are active to keep the situation under control.
