10 injured in BNP-NCP clash in Hatiya
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between activists of BNP and National Citizen Party, NCP, over the inauguration of a ferry in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali.
Officer-in-charge of Hatiya Police Station Md Saiful Alam said the incident took place at Nalchira ferry ghat around 3:30pm on January 30, centring a pre-announced programme of the shipping ministry.
Witnesses said activists of BNP and NCP gathered at Nalchira ghat for the ferry inauguration. An exchange of slogans triggered an argument, which later turned into physical altercation and clashes.
Some of the injured received treatment locally.
After the incident, NCP alleged that its activists were attacked and demanded arrest of those involved. BNP also alleged attacks on its activists and blamed NCP for the incident.
Condemning the clash, NCP candidate Abdul Hannan Masud announced a programme to besiege Hatiya Police Station demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.
