10 injured in clash between Chhatra Dal, Shibir in Cumilla
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal at Cumilla Polytechnic Institute.
The incident took place at the Kotbari Polytechnic campus in Cumilla on Thursday evening (April 23).
According to students, the clash began after an incident earlier in the afternoon when a student named Nafis Abdullah was slapped by several others over allegations of being a “covert Shibir member.” Seeking justice, Shibir leaders went to the principal’s office in the evening. The principal formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter, but Shibir activists demanded immediate action.
As tensions escalated, Chhatra Dal activists gathered in front of the principal’s office, leading to heightened tension that eventually turned into a violent clash. Witnesses alleged that sticks and sharp weapons were used during the violence.
Comilla Polytechnic Institute Chhatra Dal activist Emon Ahmed said, in the afternoon, a student had an argument with two students in the hall. There was also a clash between them. There has been no Chhatra Dal committee on the campus for a long time. There was a clash between the Shibir and the general students.
Comilla Polytechnic Institute Principal Mazarul Islam said, there was no slogan of any Chhatra Dal Chhatra Shibir here. The clash happened suddenly. The clash happened on Thursday afternoon over slapping a person. I formed an investigation committee. But the clash happened before that.
Comilla Sadar South Police Station (OC Investigation) Abdur Razzak said, after receiving the information, the Thana police and DB police were sent to the campus. The current situation is under the control of the police.
