10 suffer burn injuries in AC explosion at Gulistan salon

At least 10 people suffered burn injuries after an air conditioner (AC) exploded inside a salon at Gulistan area in Dhaka.

The incident took place at Arman Salon in the Alu Bazar area of Gulistan on Tuesday night (July 14).

The injured have been identified as customers Md Faruk, 35, Rinku, 30, Rony, 36, Jasim, 40, and Rafiq, 25, along with salon workers Shamshed, 30, Raju, 34, Pappu, 26, Sakib, 17, and Arman, 37.

Nine of the injured are undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Residential Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery said Faruk sustained the most severe injuries, suffering burns to 50 percent of his body.

According to hospital authorities, Rinku sustained 21 percent burns, Rony 10 percent, Jasim 8 percent, Rafiq 12 percent, Shamshed 15 percent, Raju 18 percent, Pappu 18 percent, Sakib 1 percent, and Arman 15 percent.

Dr Rahman said Sakib was released after receiving primary treatment, while the remaining nine victims have been admitted for further medical care.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately known. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine what triggered the blast.
