10 university students stranded at Hamham waterfall rescued after 999 call

Ten private university students who were stranded at the Hamham waterfall in the Rajkandi reserve forest of Moulvibazar's Kamalganj upazila have been rescued by police, tourist police and fire service personnel.

The rescue operation was launched after the students called the national emergency service 999 on Monday (July 20) afternoon.

Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police Md Monirul Islam confirmed the matter.

Police said a group of 10 students from Dhaka International University went to visit the Hamham waterfall on Monday morning. One of the students slipped and injured his hand on the way to the waterfall. Unable to return through the hilly terrain with the injured companion, they sought help by calling 999.

A rescue operation was launched with the coordination of Kamalganj police, tourist police, fire service and local residents. After about two hours of effort, the 10 stranded students were safely rescued at 4:45pm.

The SP said the injured student has been sent to hospital for treatment. The other rescued students are in good health.
