10 workers seriously injured in shipbreaking yard blast in Sitakunda

At least 10 workers were seriously injured in a powerful explosion at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda of Chattogram.

The blast occurred while workers were cutting a scrap vessel at Ferdous Steel Shipbreaking Yard near Station Road in Bhatiary, along the coastal belt of the upazila on Friday morning (August 14).

Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Fakhrul Islam confirmed the incident, saying police were sent to the site immediately after authorities received the report. The administration is monitoring the situation.

The identities of the injured workers and the hospitals to which they were taken were not immediately known. The cause of the explosion has also yet to be established.

Security has been tightened around the shipbreaking yard following the incident, while police and relevant authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the blast.
