1,00,000 pieces of yaba recovered from Ghumdhum border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 100,000 pieces of Yaba abandoned from Rejupara border of Ghumdhum union of Naikshongchhari upazila of Bandarban. However, BGB could not arrest anyone during this time.
The operation was conducted at 12:15am in the area adjacent to the Rejupara border of Ghumdhum in Naikshongchhari upazila on Monday (May 18). Acting commander of Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), Major Md. Mehedi Hasan Ashiq confirmed the authenticity of the operation.
According to BGB sources, based on secret information, a team of Rejupara BOP received information that a large consignment of drugs was being smuggled into the country through the border. Based on this, the BGB team left for the border at approximately 9:30 pm on May 18. They conducted a special operation in the Baritali area, about four kilometers inside Bangladesh from the border pillar-42. However, sensing the presence of the BGB patrol team, the drug smugglers abandoned their goods and fled. Later, the BGB recovered one lakh Burmese yaba abandoned at the scene of the incident. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
Acting Commander of Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), Major Md. Mehedi Hasan Ashiq said, "The BGB is very active in preventing drugs and smuggling in the border area. It has been possible to recover a large amount of yaba in the operation conducted based on intelligence information. Such operations will continue in the border area in the future."
