101-bed hospitals to be built in every upazila: Health Minister
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain Bokul has said that 101-bed hospitals will be built in every upazila across the country.
He made the remarks while on an unannounced visit to the Morrelganj Upazila Health Complex in Bagerhat on Saturday (July 25) morning.
The Health Minister said, "The general public has elected a government through votes. We have been elected by the people's votes, so we have a deep responsibility towards them. The government is working tirelessly to ensure improved healthcare services for the people."
During the visit, the minister reviewed in detail the quality of medical services, medicine stocks and expiry dates, food quality, the shortage of doctors and the overall management at the hospital.
During his nearly two-and-a-half-hour tour of various departments of the hospital, several irregularities and inconsistencies came to his notice. He expressed particular anger upon finding a large quantity of expired medicines stored at the hospital and ordered swift action against those responsible.
After inspecting the upazila health complex, the minister also visited a private clinic owned by the upazila health officer, located adjacent to the hospital. As several irregularities were also observed there, he directed that legal action be taken.
