1,051 executive magistrates appointed nationwide for election duty
The government has appointed 1,051 executive magistrates across the country to maintain law and order and perform election-related duties during the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.
A gazette notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday, February 4.
According to the notification, the appointed executive magistrates will ensure compliance with the election code of conduct, maintain overall law and order in their assigned areas, prevent crimes, operate mobile courts and provide necessary directions to striking forces, particularly teams from the Border Guard Bangladesh, Coast Guard and the armed forces.
The executive magistrates will operate mobile courts in their respective areas from February 8 to February 14. For this purpose, they are required to report to the offices of the concerned deputy commissioners on February 7. The notification also said that they will be given necessary training before assuming their duties.
It further stated that under Section 5 of the Mobile Court Act, 2009, the appointed magistrates will have the authority to operate mobile courts on the polling day and up to two days after the election.
District magistrates will assign duties to the executive magistrates within their jurisdictions and determine the areas for mobile court operations. They will also have to be informed daily, in a prescribed format, of detailed information regarding mobile court activities, with the same information sent to the respective returning officers.
