A total of 10,644 candidates have cleared the preliminary examination of the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

The results were published on Sunday evening, Public Service Commission (PSC) spokesman SM Matiur Rahman confirmed.

More than 374,000 applicants had registered to sit the test.

The exam was held from 10am to 12pm on September 19 simultaneously across 262 educational institutions in eight divisional cities.

The PSC had issued the original circular for the 47th BCS on November 28 last year to recruit for 3,487 cadre posts and 201 non-cadre positions.

Although online applications were initially scheduled to open on 10 December, the process was suspended a day earlier. A revised circular was later published on December 26.

The revised notice reduced both the application fee and the marks allocated for the viva voce, lowering the oral exam from 200 to 100 marks.

The total marks for the BCS were consequently adjusted from 1,100 to 1,000. For the first time, the maximum age limit for applicants was set at 32 years.

Applications were accepted between Dec 28 and February 27.

The preliminary test had originally been scheduled for August 8 but was postponed by 43 days before finally being held.
