A month after a Bangladeshi woman, who was forced into the flesh trade in a brothel at the red-light area of Budhwar Peth, made serious allegations against a police constable, the Pune city police rescued 11 Bangladeshi women from different brothels in the red-light area during the early hours of Wednesday.

This was the second such operation in the red-light area within the last seven days. On Feb 12, police rescued two Bangladeshi women from the brothels and also rescued several minor girls.

Around 12.30am, a 700-member police team, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale, raided the brothels and checked for Bangladeshi women and minor girls forced into prostitution.

"We will initiate the act of sealing the brothels or the buildings housing brothels where the Bangladeshi women were found staying illegally and forced into the flesh trade. Cases will be registered under the provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. We will soon initiate deportation process of these women," said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said.
