11 family members burned in Ashulia gas cylinder blast

Eleven people, including women and children, sustained burns in a gas cylinder explosion in Ashulia, Dhaka.


The incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Friday (February 14) at a two-story house owned by Amjad Bepari in the Gumail area of earpur union, Ashulia. After receiving initial treatment at a local hospital, the injured were sent to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for advanced care.


The injured individuals are - Mosammat Jahura Begum (70), Mosammat Surjo Banu (55), Md. Monir Hossain (43), Sohel Mia (38), Suman Mia (30), Shiuly Akter (25), Sharmin (25), Samin Mahmud (15), Mahadi (7), Soyaed (4), and Mosammat Suraha (3).


Speaking to the injured and eyewitnesses, it was learned that Md. Suman lived on the second floor of the house with his wife and two children. On the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, Suman's mother and his brother Sohel’s family came to visit. After dinner, while preparing traditional cakes, the gas cylinder suddenly exploded, setting the room on fire. As a result, eleven people, including women and children, sustained burns. Locals rushed to rescue them and took them to the hospital.


Mezbah, the Customer Care Manager of Ashulia Women and Children's Hospital, stated, "Eleven injured people were brought in. After initial treatment, they were sent to Dhaka for further care."


Regarding the incident, the Jirabo Fire Service Control Room said that they had not received any report about the fire, and no firefighting team had been dispatched to the location.


Around 1:30 am last night, the duty officer of Ashulia Police Station confirmed that, upon receiving the news, a police team had been sent to the site.
