11 more children die from measles and suspected symptoms

A further 11 children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms across the country, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, May 19.

Among the deaths, nine children died from suspected measles symptoms, while two deaths have been confirmed as measles. The total number of deaths from measles and suspected measles since March 15 has now reached 475, of which 77 have been confirmed.

The figures cover the 24-hour period from 8:00 am on Monday, May 18, to 8:00 am on Tuesday, May 19.

Among the nine suspected measles deaths, three each occurred in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, with one each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions. Dhaka and Moulvibazar districts recorded two deaths each, the highest.

In the last 24 hours, 1,264 suspected measles cases were detected, with 1,115 patients admitted to hospitals and 1,110 discharged. A total of 73 confirmed measles cases were detected.

Division-wise, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases at 544, followed by Chattogram with 230 and Barishal with 147. Dhaka division also recorded the highest number of confirmed measles cases at 54.
