11 more die, highest this year, in dengue
A number of 11 more people have died of dengue in the last 24 hours which is the highest daily death toll this year.
In the last 24 hours, 1,079 people have been admitted to hospitals due to dengue. With this, the number of dengue deaths has increased to 459 since the beginning of this year, and the number of identified patients has increased to 86,791.
This information was given in a press release sent by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday (November 24).
According to the press release, among the newly admitted patients, 97 are in Barishal division, 113 in Chattogram division, 272 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 194 in Dhaka North City, 121 in Dhaka South City and 143 in Khulna division. In addition, 58 new patients have been admitted in Rajshahi division, 35 in Mymensingh division, 58 in Rangpur division and nine in Sylhet division.
The DGHS said that a total of 86,791 patients have been admitted to the hospital since January this year. Of them, 63.20 percent are men and 36.80 percent are women. Of the 459 people who have died of dengue so far, 51.10 percent are women and 48.90 percent are men.
Dengue outbreaks occur every year during the rainy season. The dengue situation has taken a terrible turn since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country and received treatment. Of these, 110,08 were in Dhaka and 211,171 were treated outside Dhaka.
Of the infected, 318,749 returned home after recovering from the hospital. Last year, 1,705 people died from this mosquito-borne disease, which is the highest death toll in a single year in the country's history.
