110 hospitalised as police disperse primary teachers' protest
Police dispersed a procession of primary teachers who were demonstrating in Shahbagh with three-point demands. During the police baton charge and tear gas firing, at least 110 people, including teachers, police personnel and rickshaw pullers, were injured and are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
On Saturday November 8 afternoon, the injured started arriving at the hospital one after another. They are being treated at the emergency department.
The matter was confirmed by the In-charge of Dhaka Medical Police Camp Md Faruk.
He said the injured were brought to the hospital after the afternoon, and all are receiving treatment at the emergency department. Most of the injured have left after receiving primary treatment, while the rest are still under medical care.
Earlier in the afternoon, police obstructed the procession of protesting primary teachers heading towards Shahbagh. A clash then broke out between the teachers and the police. To bring the situation under control, police used water cannons, sound grenades and tear shells.
