12 journalists injured as extortionists attack picnic bus in Narsingdi
At least 12 journalists of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) were injured in a attack on their way back from a picnic in Narsingdi. Of the injured, six are said to be in serious condition.
A family day organized by CRAB was held at Dream Holiday Park in Narsingdi. The incident took place on the way back to Dhaka by bus after the event.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, when the bus was temporarily parked on the side of the road in front of Dream Holiday Park, a group of local criminsls demanded extortion. When the journalists protested, a brawl broke out. At one stage, the situation turned into a clash. Later, the extortionists attacked the journalists with country-made weapons.
At least 12 journalists, including Md. Shahed, Mohsin, and Sakhawat Kausar, were injured in the attack. Six of them have been admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah-al-Farooq told reporters that after receiving the information about the incident, the police quickly reached the spot and detained two people and took them to the police station. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved in the attack.
Strongly condemning the incident, the executive committee of CRAB said that preparations are being made to file a case at Madhabadi Police Station to take legal action against those involved in the attack.
