12 killed in bus–microbus collision in Rampal

At least 12 people were reported killed in a head-on collision between a Navy bus and a microbus in Rampal in Bagerhat.

The accident occurred near Belai Bridge on the Khulna-Mongla highway around 4pm on Thursday (March 12).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Highway Police Station Zafar Ahmed said that the Navy bus was coming from Mongla towards Khulna. On the other hand, the microbus was going from Khulna towards Mongla. When the two vehicles reached Belai Bridge, they collided head-on. Four people in the microbus, including three women, died on the spot. Locals quickly rescued the injured and sent them to various hospitals.

Medical Officer of Rampal Upazila Health Complex Sukanta Pal said that six people were brought to their hospital. Four of them were brought dead. Two seriously injured have been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police and local sources said that at least 12 people are believed to have died in the accident. The injured are being treated and efforts are underway to identify the deceased.
