12 teachers for 12 students, yet everyone fails

Twelve students took part in the SSC examinations this year from Taltola High School in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram. The institution also has twelve teachers. However, not a single one of the twelve participating students passed the examinations.

The results of the SSC examinations of 2026 were published on Monday morning. According to the statistics of the Dinajpur Education Board, all examinees from 22 schools under this board failed. Among them, four schools are located in Kurigram.

Visiting Taltola High School, student Badhan Kumar Ray was seen sitting alone in a tenth-grade classroom. He shared that while the teachers came to school regularly, student attendance remained low. Although the classroom was once filled with students, over time some got married, and others went to Dhaka to work. Many other students also failed to attend school regularly.

According to school sources, Taltola High School was established in 1991. The institution received MPO inclusion at the junior level in 2001 and obtained permission for secondary-level teaching in 2024. Following this, the school's students participated in the SSC examinations for the very first time this year. Currently, the school has about 150 students ranging from the sixth to the tenth grade, along with twelve teachers, including the headmaster. Around 25 students are expected to take the SSC examinations next year.

Kurigram District Education Officer Shafiqul Islam stated that investigations would be conducted regarding the educational institutions where no students passed, and necessary legal actions would be taken accordingly.
