A total of 123 distressed Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from Libya, according to a statement from the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli.

The group departed from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli at 6:25 PM local time on Wednesday, June 18, on a special flight operated by Buraq Air. The flight arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 9:30 AM on Thursday, June 19.

The repatriation has been organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with close cooperation from the Bangladesh Embassy. The embassy noted that most of the returnees were living in Tripoli and nearby cities without valid documentation. Among them, 23 individuals are reported to be physically unwell.

Due to the expiration of passports or lack of legal papers, the embassy faced significant challenges in issuing new passports or outpasses and securing exit visas (Khurooj) for the returnees.

This repatriation effort is part of an ongoing initiative to assist vulnerable and irregular Bangladeshi migrants in Libya.
