12-hour parole granted to former minister Dipu Moni
Former Social Welfare Minister and Member of Parliament Dr Dipu Moni has been released on parole for 12 hours following the death of her husband, Barrister Taufiq Nawaz. The release was granted from 6am to 6pm on Thursday, August 20, based on an application by her daughter, Tani Dipaboli Nawaz.
Munshiganj Additional District Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim confirmed the information. He said following a request from her lawyer, the former minister was granted parole for 12 hours. An application for a four-day release had been filed.
Earlier on Wednesday, August 19, Tani Dipaboli had been making rounds in Munshiganj to secure her mother's release. It is learned that her father's body has been kept in Dhaka and burial arrangements were awaiting her mother's release.
Dipu Moni's lawyer, Gazi Faisal Islam, confirmed the matter. He said her daughter had met her mother at the jail around 12pm on Wednesday. After leaving the jail, she went to the Deputy Commissioner's office around 1:45pm to apply for parole. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim granted the 12-hour parole following the application.
It is known that a four-day parole had been requested for Dipu Moni. She is currently in Munshiganj District Jail.
Barrister Taufiq Nawaz, husband of Dipu Moni, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Tuesday, August 18, night.
According to jail authorities, if any application for parole is received, necessary action will be taken according to rules.
