13 mini stadiums to be built in 13 upazilas of Bogura: State Minister

Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, has said a total of 13 mini stadiums will be constructed, one in each of the 13 upazilas of Bogura. He also said playgrounds will be prepared under government initiative in the 115 unions of the district.

He made these remarks while delivering the speech as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament-2026 at the football ground adjacent to Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura around 4:30pm on Saturday (August 22).

Mir Shahe Alam said an initiative has been taken to construct one mini stadium in each of the 13 upazilas of Bogura. Alongside this, an initiative has been taken to construct Arafat Rahman Koko National Para Sports Village on 60 bighas of land beside Tinmatha Railway Station in Bogura town at a cost of Tk 120 crore.

He said for the development of sports, not only infrastructure will be built at the upazila level but playgrounds will also be arranged at the union level. Playgrounds will be prepared under government initiative in the 115 unions of the district.

Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman, the programme was addressed by Members of Parliament Rezaul Karim Badsha, Kazi Rafiqul Islam and Suraiya Jerin. Administrator of Bogura City Corporation MR Islam Swadhin, Administrator of District Council Ahsanul Tayeb Jakir and officials of the district administration were present at the time.

A total of 14 teams including the 13 upazilas of Bogura and the newly created city corporation are participating in the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament. In the inaugural match, Sariakandi upazila team faced Dupchanchia upazila team.

According to the organisers, about 15,000 sports-loving spectators gathered around the inaugural ceremony. Leaders of political and social organisations, sports organisers and players were present at the programme.
