13 of Tangail road crash victims belonged to Naogaon
At least 13 of the 17 people killed in a deadly truck accident in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila early Monday (May 25) were residents of Naogaon’s Manda upazila, police said.
According to local authorities, most of the victims were from villages stretching between Rajendra Bati (Debra) and Chikla Balakshetra under Varsho Union of Manda upazila.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda Police Station, confirmed the information.
He said, "Police are collecting details of the victims through various sources."
"However, the identities and professions of all the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed," he added.
The tragic accident occurred around 4:00am on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Saratail Southpara area of Kalihati, when a rod-laden truck carrying passengers overturned into a roadside ditch after reportedly losing control.
According to fire service officials, the passengers were travelling to northern districts to celebrate Eid with their families when the crash occurred.
Kalihati Fire Service and Civil Defence Station In-Charge Ataur Rahman said 17 people died after being trapped under the overturned truck, while at least ten others were injured. The injured were rescued and taken to Tangail General Hospital for treatment.
Authorities suspect overspeeding or loss of control may have caused the accident, though investigations are still underway.
