133 communal violence in three months: BHBCUC
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) has expressed deep concern over the continued communal violence in the country in the last three months before and after the 13th parliamentary elections.
This information was given in a press release signed by the organization’s acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath on Thursday.
The release said that according to information published in the media from January 1 to March 31, 2026, a total of 133 incidents of communal violence have occurred. Of these, 25 were murders, four were rapes and torture of women, 35 were attacks and looting on temples, and 69 were other incidents, including attacks on different ethnic groups in the hills and plains.
A month-wise analysis shows that out of the 46 incidents in January, 11 were murders, nine were attacks on temples, and 15 were attacks, looting, and vandalism. Out of the 50 incidents in February, eight were murders, 15 were attacks on temples, and 17 were looting and vandalism. In March, 37 incidents were reported, including six murders, 11 attacks on temples, and seven looting and vandalism.
The Oikya Parishad said that the organization had hoped that such attacks would decrease after the formation of the BNP-led government. But as the incidents continued, there is concern and apprehension among the minorities. In this situation, it has called for the implementation of 8-point demands, including the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved, compensation for the victims, enactment of a minority protection law, and the formation of a minority ministry and a national minority commission.
