13km tailback on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway
A 13-km long traffic jam has occurred on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Munshiganj's Gazaria section.
Drivers and passengers of vehicles have been stuck in the traffic jam for a long time, causing sufferings to the travellers.
This severe traffic jam was created from 8 am on Friday (January 10) while situation did not return to normalcy even after the afternoAccording to sources, a covered van overturned in the Gouripur area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 7:30am on Friday, causing the congestion on the road. Later, when the covered van was removed, the traffic became normal.
Shyamoli Paribahan bus driver Billal Hossain, who was travelling from Dhaka to Cumilla, was stuck in a traffic jam at Bhaberchar bus stand area on the highway around 9am.
He told the media that he had left for Cumilla from Sayedabad in Dhaka at 7am. But he got stuck in a traffic jam when he reached Bhaberchar area.
Saiful Islam, a bus passenger, told the media that he boarded the bus from Sayedabad in Dhaka at 7am. The 35-km highway was supposed to be covered in 35 minutes. But he spent extra time getting stuck in the traffic jam.
Humayun Kabir, in-charge of Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost, said that there is a pressure of traffic as Friday is a weekly closure day.
Moreovet, an accident occurred in Gauripura in the morning. This has caused slow traffic on the road.
However, the police are working to resolve the matter. Hopefully, traffic movement on the road will be normal very soon.
