13th National Parliament Elections: Chuadanga District

Chuadanga district is an administrative region of the Khulna Division in western Bangladesh. The district has a total of two parliamentary constituencies. Following the Election Commission’s publication of the final list of candidates for the 13th National Parliament elections, election campaigning began across the district from last Thursday (January 22).

Chuadanga-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 79): Chuadanga-1 constituency comprises Alamdanga Upazila and the Alukdia, Mominpur, Kutubpur, Shankarchandra and Padmabila unions of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila. The total number of voters in the constituency is 484,389, including 241,680 male and 242,705 female voters. There are four transgender voters.

Candidates: Three candidates are contesting this seat in the upcoming election: Md Masud Parvez from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md Sharifuzzaman from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and Mohammad Zahurul Islam from Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

Elected MPs: In 1986, independent candidate Mokbul Hossain was elected from this constituency. In 1988, Mohammad Shahjahan of the Combined Opposition Alliance won the seat. In 1991, Mia Mohammad Mansur Ali of BNP was elected. Shamsuzzaman Dudu of BNP won the seat in the 1996 election, followed by Shahidul Islam Biswas of the same party in 2001. In the 2008, 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections, Awami League candidate Solaiman Haque Joarder won the seat consecutively.

Chuadanga-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 80): Chuadanga-2 constituency consists of Damurhuda Upazila, Jibannagar Upazila, and the Titudah, Nehalpur, Goraitupi and Begumpur unions of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila. The total number of voters in the constituency is 466,102, of whom 234,404 are male and 231,694 are female voters.

Candidates: Three candidates are contesting this seat: Md Ruhul Amin from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md Hasanuzzaman from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Mahmud Hasan Khan from BNP.

Elected MPs: In 1986, Mirza Sultan Raja of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Siraj) was elected. In 1988, Habibur Rahman Habi of the Jatiya Party won the seat. Habibur Rahman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was elected in 1991. Mozammel Haque of BNP won the constituency in both the 1996 and 2001 elections. From 2008 to 2024, Awami League candidate Ali Azgar Togor won the seat consecutively.
