Known as Awami League stronghold, the election battle in Dinajpur will be mainly between BNP and Jamaat candidates. However, Jatiya Party may also make a surprise appearance in the election race. Since Awami League is not in the election, the people of the district are calculating the votes in a new way this time. Let's take a look at the electoral race in the six constituencies of Dinajpur.

Dinajpur-1 (National Parliament seat number-6):
Dinajpur-1 constituency is formed by Birganj upazila and Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur district. This constituency was formed during the first election in independent Bangladesh in 1973. There are a total of 3,92,711 voters in this constituency. Out of these, 1,97,189 are males, 1,95,520 are females and 2 are Hijra voters.

Candidates: Md. Manjurul Islam from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Matiur Rahman from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami,
Md. Rijuwanul Islam from Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Md. Chan Mia from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Shahinur Islam from Jatiya Party and Raghunath Chandra Roy from Zaker Party.

Elected MPs: Abdul Malek Sarkar from Bangladesh Awami League in 1986, Md. Aminul Islam from Bangladesh Awami League in 1991, Abdur Rauf Chowdhury from Bangladesh Awami League in 1996, Abdullah Al Kafi from Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in 2001 and Monoranjan Shil Gopal from Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.

Dinajpur-2 (National Parliament seat number-7):
Dinajpur-2 constituency is made up of Bochaganj Upazila and Birol Upazila of the district. The total number of voters here is 3,49,079. Out of which 1,76,238 are male and 1,72,841 are female voters.

Candidates: Md. Sadiq Riaz from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), AKM Afzalul Anam from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Independent candidate Anwar Chowdhury Jibon, Md. Zulfikar Hossain from Jatiya Party, Muh. Redwanul Karim Rabid from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Mukaram Hossain from Bangladesh Muslim League, Sudhir Chandra Shil from Jatiya Party (JP), Independent Md. ANM Bazlur Rashid and Jobair Sayeed from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis.

Elected MPs: Satish Chandra Roy from Bangladesh Awami League in 1986, 1991 and 1996, Mahbubur Rahman from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 2001 and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury from Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.

Dinajpur-3 (National Parliament seat number-8):
Dinajpur-3 constituency consists of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila. The total voters of this constituency are 3,92,875. Out of which 1,94,979 are male, 1,97,894 are female and 2 are transgender voters.

Candidates: Syed Jahangir Alam from the Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Mainul Alam from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Ahmed Shafi Rubel from the Jatiya Party, Md. Khairuzzaman from the Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Kibria Hossain from the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BASD, Rezaul Karim from the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Laila Tul Rima from the Bangladesh Muslim League and Md. Rabiul Islam from the Janatar Dal.

Elected MPs: Amjad Hossain from the Bangladesh Awami League in 1986, M Abdur Rahim from the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik League in 1991, Khurshid Jahan Haque from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1996 and Iqbalur Rahim from the Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.

Dinajpur-4 (National Parliament Constituency No. 9): Dinajpur-4 constituency consists of Khansama Upazila and Chirirbandar Upazila of Dinajpur district. The total voters of this constituency are 3,98,823. Out of them, 2,00,638 are males, 1,98,183 are females and 2 are transgender voters.

Candidates: Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia from the Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Aftab Uddin Mollah from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Anwar Hossain from Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Shah Md. Nurul Amin Shah from Jatiya Party (JP).

Elected MPs: Mizanur Rahman Manu from Bangladesh Workers Party was elected MP in 1986, Mizanur Rahman Manu from Bangladesh Awami League in 1991 and 1996, Akhtaruzzaman Mia from Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2001 and Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali from Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.

Dinajpur-5 (National Parliament Constituency No. 10): Dinajpur-5 constituency consists of Parbatipur Upazila and Phulbari Upazila of Dinajpur district. The total voters here are 4,50,138. Out of which, 2,25,131 are male, 2,25,004 are female and 3 are transgender voters.

Candidates: AKM Kamruzzaman from the Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Anwar Hossain from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Independent Md. Hazrat Ali Belal, Md. Kazi Abdul Gafur from the Jatiya Party, Independent AZM Rezwanul Haque, Md. Abdul Ahad from the National Citizen Party and Md. Abdul Kader Chowdhury from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis
and Md. Rustam Ali is running as an independent candidate.

Elected MPs: Mostafizur Rahman Fizar from Bangladesh Awami League in 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008.

Dinajpur-6 (National Parliament seat number-11): Dinajpur-6 constituency is formed by four upazilas of the south of the district, Nawabganj, Birampur, Hakimpur and Ghoraghat upazilas. The total voters here are 5,25,923. Out of which 2,62,388 are male, 2,63,524 are female and 11 are transgender voters.

Candidates: Abu Jafar Md. Zahid Hossain from the Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Anwarul Islam from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, independent Md. Shahnewaz Firoz Shuvo, Md. Abdul Hakim from the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BASD, Md. Nur Alam Siddique from the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Rezaul Haque from the Jatiya Party and Md. Abdul Haque from the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party).

Elected MPs:Zafar Muhammad Lutfar from NAP (Muzaffar) in 1986, Azizur Rahman Chowdhury from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 1991, Md. Mostafizur Rahman Fiju from Bangladesh Awami League in 1996, Azizur Rahman Chowdhury from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 2001 and Azizul Haque Chowdhury from Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.
