In Mymensingh district, the election battle has intensified this year. With the Awami League not participating, voters are recalculating the prospects. While the main contest in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections is expected between BNP and Jamaat candidates, the Jatiya Party could also create surprises. Here’s an overview of the electoral battle across Mymensingh’s 11 constituencies.

Mymensingh-1 (National Parliament Constituency No. 146): This constituency comprises Haluaghat and Dhobaura Upazilas, with a total of 483,712 voters, including 241,604 men, 242,104 women, and 4 hijras.

Candidates: Six candidates are contesting: Md. Tajul Islam from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis with the “Rickshaw” symbol; independent candidate Md. Salman Omar with the “Horse” symbol; Md. A. Razzak from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) with the “Scissors” symbol; Syed Emran Saleh from BNP with the “Paddy Sheaf” symbol; Azharul Islam from Bangladesh Communist Party with the “Hammer” symbol; Md. Zillur Rahman from Islami Andolan Bangladesh with the “Hand Fan” symbol.

Elected MPs: Promod Mankin from Awami League in 1991, Afzal H. Khan from BNP in June 1996, and Promod Mankin again from Awami League in 2001 and 2008.

Mymensingh-2 (National Parliament Constituency No. 147):
This constituency includes Fulbaria and Tarakanda Upazilas, with 576,167 voters (294,451 men, 281,713 women, 3 hijras).

Candidates: Seven candidates are contesting: Md. Emdadul Haq Khan from Jatiya Party with the “Plough” symbol; Md. Mymensingh-3 (National Parliament Constituency No. 148): This constituency covers Gouripur Upazila, with 298,268 voters (150,780 men, 147,487 women, 1 hijra).
