13th National Parliament Elections: Nilphamari District
Like the rest of the country, the atmosphere of the 13th parliamentary elections is also prevailing in Nilphamari district. In the past elections (except the last three elections), the Awami League showed dominance in four constituencies of the district, but the Jatiya Party, Jamaat and BNP also won one or more seats. However, this time, since the Awami League is not in the elections, the vote count of the district will be reversed. Nilphamari-1 (National Parliament Constituency No. 12): This constituency consists of Dimla Upazila and Domar Upazila of Nilphamari district. Total voters are 4,29,095. Out of which, 2,16,829 are male, 2,12,264 are female and 2 are transgender voters.
Candidates: Md. Abdus Sattar from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Md. Manjurul Islam from Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh, Md. Taslim Uddin from Jatiya Party, Rafiqul Islam from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), Jebel Rahman Gani from Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP, Md. Sirajul Islam from Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), Md. Makhdum Azam Mashrafe from Jatiya Party-JP and Md. A. Jalil from Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Elected MPs: Abdur Rouf from Awami League in 1991, Alam Chowdhury from Jatiya Party in 1996, Hamida Banu Shobha from Awami League in 2001 and Zafar Iqbal Siddiqui from Jatiya Party in 2008.
Nilphamari-2 (National Parliament Constituency No. 13): The constituency consists of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila of Nilphamari district. There are 3,58,793 voters. Out of these, 1,79,716 are male and 1,79,077 are female voters.
Candidates: Shahrin Islam from the Nationalist Party (BNP), Alfaruk Abdul Latif from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Sarwarul Alam from Khelafat Majlis, Hasibul Islam from Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Md. Sirajul Islam from Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF).
Elected MPs: Shamsuddoha from the Communist Party of Bangladesh in 1991, Ahsan Ahmed from the Jatiya Party in 1996, Asaduzzaman Noor from the Bangladesh Awami League in 2001 and 2008.
Nilphamari-3 (National Parliament Constituency No. 14): Nilphamari-3 constituency consists of Jaldhaka Upazila. The total number of voters here is 2,75,342. Out of which, 1,40,071 are males, 1,35,270 are females and one is transgender voter.
Candidates: Alhaj Syed Ali from the BNP, Obaidullah Salafi from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Rohan Chowdhury and Md. Amjad Hossain from Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
Elected MPs: Joban Uddin Ahmed from Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in 1986, Md. Azharul Islam from Bangladesh Awami League in 1991, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 1996 and 2001 and Kazi Faruk Quader from Jatiya Party in 2008.
Nilphamari-4 (National Parliament seat number-15): This constituency consists of Saidpur upazila and Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district. The total voters here are 4,26,078. Of them, 2,13,842 are male, 2,12,231 are female and five are transgender voters.
Candidates: Md. Abdul Gafur Sarkar from the BNP, Abdul Muntakim from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mirza Md. Shawkat Akbar from the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Rowshan), Md. Shahidul Islam from the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Maidul Islam from the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), Md. Riyad Arfan Sarkar, S.M. Mamunur Rashid, Md. Siddiqul Alam from the Jatiya Party and Jobaidur Rahman.
Elected MPs: Rawshan Ali Mia from Jatiya Party in 1986, Abdul Hafiz from NAP (Muzaffar) in 1991, Muhammad Asadur Rahman from Jatiya Party in 1996, Amjad Hossain Sarkar from Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2001 and A.A. Maruf Saknal from Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.
