13th National Parliament Elections: Panchagarh District

Panchagarh is the northernmost district of Bangladesh at the foot of Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas. The counting of parliamentary seats in Bangladesh has started from this district of Rangpur division. Two constituencies fell under the district. The election campaign has started in full swing in this district since Thursday (January 22) after the Election Commission released the final list of candidates on the occasion of the upcoming thirteenth National Parliament election.

Panchagarh-1 (Parliamentary Seat Number-1): Panchagarh-1 constituency consists of Panchagarh Sadar, Tentulia and Atwari upazilas. The total number of voters in Panchagarh-1 constituency is 458,260, out of which 229,119 are male voters and 229,146 are female voters. There are a total of 155 centers here.

Candidates: Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar's son Muhammad Naushad Zamir is contesting from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), His father, Md. Sarjis Alam from National Citizen Party, Md. Mahafuzar Rahman from the Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Md. Abdul Wadud (Badsha) from the Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), Md. Ferdaus Alam from the Bangladesh Labour Party, Nazmul Haque Pradhan from the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Md. Sirajul Islam from the Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF).

Elected MPs: Sirajul Islam from Awami League in 1986, Mirza Golam Hafiz from BNP in 1991, Zamir Uddin Sarkar from BNP in 1996 and 2001 elections and Mohammad Mazharul Haque Pradhan from Awami League in 2008.

Panchagarh-2, (Parliamentary seat number-2): Panchagarh-2 constituency consists of Boda and Debiganj upazilas. The total voters in Panchagarh-2 constituency are 413,265 --male voters 207,367, female voters 205,895 and 3 transgender voters. The total number of voting centers is 132.

Candidates: Farhad Hossain Azad from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Md. Shafiul Alam from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Delwar Hossain, Emran Al Amin from Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Bangladesh JSD and Md. Kamrul Hasan from Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

Elected MPs: Mohammad Farhad from the Communist Party of Bangladesh in 1986, Mozahar Hossain from the Communist Party of Bangladesh in 1991, Mozahar Hossain from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1996 and Nurul Islam Sujan of Bangladesh Awami League in 2008.
