13th National Parliament Elections: Pirojpur District

In Pirojpur district, the voting base has traditionally been nearly balanced among the Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami, as reflected in the results of most national elections, except the last three. However, in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, the absence of the Awami League has altered the electoral landscape. This time, the contest is expected mainly among BNP, Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami. Below is an overview of the three parliamentary constituencies in Pirojpur district.

Pirojpur-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 127): 
Pirojpur-1 constituency comprises Pirojpur Sadar Upazila, Indurkani Upazila, and Nazirpur Upazila.

Candidates: Only two candidates are contesting: Masud Saeedi of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales) and Alamgir Hossain of BNP (sheaf of paddy).

Elected MPs: In 1991, Sudhanshu Sekhar Haldar of the Awami League was elected. In 1996, Delwar Hossain Saeedi of Jamaat-e-Islami won. In 2008, A K M A Awal of the Awami League became the Member of Parliament.

Pirojpur-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 128): Pirojpur-2 constituency comprises Kaukhali Upazila, Bhandaria Upazila, and Nesarabad Upazila.

Candidates: 
Seven candidates are contesting: Ahmad Sohel Manzur of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Faisal Khan of Amar Bangladesh Party (Eagle), Md Abul Kalam Azad of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Md Anisur Rahman of Gono Odhikar Parishad (truck), Md Mahibul Hossain of Jatiya Party (bicycle), Mahmud Hossain (independent – horse), and Shamim Saeedi of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Anwar Hossain Manju of Jatiya Party was elected. In 1996, Anwar Hossain Manju (Jatiya Party) won, and in the 1996 by-election, Tasmima Hossain of Jatiya Party was elected. In 2001, Anwar Hossain Manju (Jatiya Party) won again, and in 2008, Shah Alam of the Awami League became the MP.

Pirojpur-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 129): 
Pirojpur-3 constituency comprises Mathbaria Upazila.

Candidates: 
Six candidates are contesting: Md Rustam Ali Farazi of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Md Ruhul Amin Dulal of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Tauhiduzzaman (independent – football), Md Shamim Hamidi of National Citizens Party (Shapla flower), Karim Sikdar of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) (car), and Md Mashreful Azam (Rabi) of Jatiya Party (plough).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Mohiuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League was elected. In 1996, Rustam Ali Farazi of BNP won, and in 2001, Rustam Ali Farazi (BNP) was elected again. In 2008, Anwar Hossain of the Awami League became the Member of Parliament.
