13th National Parliament Elections: Sirajganj District

In the electoral field of Sirajganj district, the BNP and Awami League are almost on par. This was evident from the results of the relatively transparent elections held in the country in recent years. However, since the Awami League is not contesting this time, the district’s voting dynamics have changed. Let’s take a look at the picture of the 13th parliamentary elections in the six constituencies of Sirajganj district.

Sirajganj-1 (National Parliament Constituency No. 62): This constituency consists of Kazipur Upazila and Mechra Union, Ratonkandi Union, Bagbati Union, and Chonogacha Union of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.


Candidates: Six candidates are contesting in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections for Sirajganj-1. They include Md. Selim Reza from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the paddy sheaf symbol, Md. Nazmus Sakib from Nagorik Oikya with the kettle symbol, Md. Zahurul Islam from Jatiya Party with the plough symbol, Md. Shahinur Alam from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the scale symbol, Md. Abdus Sabur as an independent with the horse symbol, and Mosha Mallika Khatun from Gana Adhikar Parishad (GOP) with the truck symbol.

Elected MPs: In Sirajganj-1, Mohammad Nasim from Awami League was elected in 1986 and 1991, Mohammad Selim from Awami League in 1996, Mohammad Nasim from Awami League in 2001, and Tanvir Shakil Joy from Awami League in 2008.

Sirajganj-2 (National Parliament Constituency No. 63):
Sirajganj-2 consists of Kamarkhand Upazila and Bohuli Union, Shialkol Union, Khokshabari Union, Kawakola Union, Kaliyaharipur Union, Saidabad Union, and Sirajganj Municipality of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila. Bohuli Union was included in Sirajganj-1 in the 11th and 12th parliamentary elections but was part of Sirajganj-2 previously. It was again included in Sirajganj-2 in 2025.

Candidates: Seven candidates are contesting for Sirajganj-2. They are Iqbal Hasan Mahmud from BNP with the paddy sheaf, S.M. Abdullah Al Mamun from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BASAD with the hoe symbol, Md. Sohel Rana from Jontar Dal with the pen symbol, Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman from Gana Adhikar Parishad (GOP) with the truck symbol, Muhammad Zahidul Islam from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the scale symbol, Md. Mohibullah from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the hand fan symbol, and Md. Anowar Hosen from the Communist Party of Bangladesh with the hammer symbol.

Elected MPs:
In Sirajganj-2, Mirza Muraduzzaman from BNP was elected in 1991, Mohammad Nasim from Awami League in 1996, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku from BNP in 2001, and Rumana Mahmud from BNP in 2008.

Sirajganj-3 (National Parliament Constituency No. 64):
This constituency consists of Raiganj Upazila and Tarash Upazila.

 
Candidates: Four candidates are contesting in Sirajganj-3. They are Md. Fazlul Haque from Jatiya Party with the plough symbol, Md. Aynul Haque from BNP with the paddy sheaf, Muha Abdur Rouf Sarkar from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis with the rickshaw symbol, and Md. Ilyas Reza Robin as an independent with the horse symbol.

Elected MPs: In Sirajganj-3, Ishak Hossain Talukdar from Awami League was elected in 1986, Abdul Mannan Talukdar from BNP in 1991, 1996, and 2001, and Ishak Hossain Talukdar from Awami League in 2008.

Sirajganj-4 (National Parliament Constituency No. 65):
This constituency consists of Ullapara Upazila.


Candidates: Five candidates are contesting in Sirajganj-4. They are Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the scale symbol, Md. Hilton Pramanik from Jatiya Party with the plough symbol, M. Akbar Ali from BNP with the paddy sheaf, Md. Abdul Hakim from the Communist Party of Bangladesh with the hammer symbol, and Abdur Rahman from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the hand fan symbol.

Elected MPs: Abdul Latif Mirza from Awami League in 1986, M. Akbar Ali from BNP in 1991, Abdul Latif Mirza from Awami League in 1996, M. Akbar Ali from BNP in 2001, and Shafiqul Islam Shafik from Awami League in 2008.

Sirajganj-5 (National Parliament Constituency No. 66): This constituency consists of Belkuchi Upazila and Chauhali Upazila.


Candidates:
Six candidates are contesting in Sirajganj-5. They are Md. Motiar Rahman from the Communist Party of Bangladesh with the hammer symbol, Md. Akbar Hosen from Jatiya Party with the plough symbol, Md. Amirul Islam Khan from BNP with the paddy sheaf, Pakhanurun Nabi from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the hand symbol, Md. Yusuf Ali from Gana Adhikar Parishad (GOP) with the truck symbol, and Md. Ali Alam from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the scale symbol.

Elected MPs: Shahidullah Khan from BNP in 1991, Abdul Latif Biswas from Awami League in 1996, M. Mozammel Haque from BNP in 2001, and Abdul Latif Biswas from Awami League in 2008.

Sirajganj-6 (National Parliament Constituency No. 67): 
This constituency consists of Shahzadpur Upazila.


Candidates: Eleven candidates are contesting in Sirajganj-6. They include Misbah Uddin from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the hand fan symbol, M.A. Muhit from BNP with the paddy sheaf, Md. Wasek Iqbal Khan Majlis as an independent with the helicopter symbol, Md. Mosharaf Hossain Shahidul from Bangladesh Islami Front with the candle symbol, Md. Moktar Hosen from Jatiya Party with the plough symbol, Abu Zafar Md. Anowarus Sadat from Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) with the eagle symbol, Md. Asadul Haque from Amjontar Dal with the butterfly symbol, S.M. Saif Mostafiz from Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) with the shapla kali symbol, Ilora Khatun from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) with the star symbol, Md. Anowar Hosen from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BASAD with the hoe symbol, and Md. Humayun Kabir as an independent with the horse symbol.

Elected MPs: Ansar Ali Siddique from BNP in 1991, Md. Shahjahan from Awami League in 1996, Manjur Qader from BNP in 2001, and Choyon Islam from Awami League in 2008.
