In the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, although the main contest in Tangail district is expected to be between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami candidates, the Jatiya Party may also emerge as a surprise contender. Below is an overview of the electoral landscape across Tangail’s eight parliamentary constituencies.

Tangail-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 130): 
Tangail-1 constituency comprises Madhupur and Dhanbari upazilas. The total number of voters stands at 437,433, including 216,007 male voters, 221,424 female voters, and two voters registered as hijra.

Candidates: 
Six candidates are contesting this seat: Muhammad Iliyas Hossain of the Jatiya Party (plough), Muhammad Abdullahhel Kafi of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales), Md Harun Or Rashid of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Fakir Mahbub Anam of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Mohammad Ali (independent – motorcycle), and Md Asadul Islam (independent – lock).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Abul Hasan Chowdhury of the Awami League was elected, and he retained the seat in the re-election held in June the same year. In 2001 and again in 2008, Abdur Razzak of the Awami League won the seat.

Tangail-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 131): 
Tangail-2 comprises Gopalpur and Bhuapur upazilas. The constituency has 418,606 voters, including 210,422 men, 208,183 women, and one hijra voter.

Candidates: 
Four candidates are in the race: Md Humayun Kabir Talukder of the Jatiya Party (plough), Md Abdus Salam Pintu of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Md Humayun Kabir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales), and Md Monwar Hasan Sagar of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991 and 2001, Abdus Salam Pintu of BNP was elected. In the June 1996 re-election and again in 2008, Khandaker Asaduzzaman of the Awami League won the seat.

Tangail-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 132): 
Tangail-3 consists of Ghatail upazila and has 382,720 voters, including 191,864 men, 190,853 women, and three hijra voters.

Candidates: 
Five candidates are contesting: Saifullah Haider of NCP (Shapla Bud), S M Obaidul Haque of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Ainun Nahar (independent – motorcycle), Ainun Nahar (independent – duck), and Md Lutfur Rahman Khan Azad (independent).

Elected MPs: 
Lutfur Rahman Khan Azad of BNP won consecutively in 1991, 1996, and 2001. In 2008, Matiur Rahman of the Awami League was elected.

Tangail-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 133)  : 
Tangail-4 comprises Kalihati upazila and has a total of 374,917 voters, including 189,942 men, 184,972 women, and three hijra voters.

Candidates: 
Six candidates are contesting: Md Liaquat Ali of the Jatiya Party (plough), Abdul Latif Siddique (independent – duck), Abdul Latif Siddique (independent – motorcycle), Md Halim Mia (independent), Md Lutfur Rahman of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Khandaker Abdur Razzak of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales), and Ali Amjad Hossain of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Shahjahan Siraj of JSD (Siraj) was elected. Abdul Latif Siddique of the Awami League won in 1996 and again in 2008, while Shahjahan Siraj of BNP was elected in 2001.

Tangail-5 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 134): 
Tangail-5 consists of Tangail Sadar upazila and has 462,412 voters, including 231,303 men and 231,108 women.

Candidates: 
Ten candidates are contesting: A K M Shafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Congress (coconut), Sultan Salahuddin Tuku of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Md Mozammel Haque of the Jatiya Party (plough), Ahsan Habib of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales), Md Forhad Iqbal (independent – deer), Syed Khalekuzzaman Mostafa of BSD (star), Khandaker Zakir Hossain of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Fatema Akhter of Ganosanghati Andolon (headgear), Md Shafiqul Islam of GOP, and Md Hasrat Khan Bhashani of BSP (ektara).

Elected MPs: 
Abdul Mannan of the Awami League won in 1996, Mahmudul Hasan of BNP in 2001, and Abul Kashem of the Jatiya Party (Ershad) in 2008.

Tangail-6 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 135): 
Tangail-6 comprises Delduar and Nagarpur upazilas and has 468,076 voters, including 236,597 men, 231,475 women, and four hijra voters.

Candidates: 
Seven candidates are contesting: Md Akhinur Mia of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Mohammad Mamunur Rahim of the Jatiya Party (plough), Tarek Shams Khan of Jatiya Party (JP) (bicycle), Md Rabiul Awal of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Muhammad Ashraful Islam (independent – rooster), Jewel Sarker (independent – deer), and A K M Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Khandaker Abu Taher of BNP was elected. Gautam Chakraborty of BNP won in 1996 and 2001, while in 2008, independent candidate Khandaker Abdul Baten was elected.

Tangail-7 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 136) :
Tangail-7 comprises Mirzapur upazila and has 375,437 voters, including 188,871 men, 186,560 women, and six hijra voters.

Candidates: 
Three candidates are contesting: Md Tofazzal Hossain of Bangladesh Republican Party (elephant), Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui of BNP (sheaf of paddy), and Mohammad Abdullah Ibne Abul Hossain of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Khandaker Badruddin of BNP was elected. Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui of BNP won in 1996, while Ekabbar Hossain of the Awami League won in 2001 and again in 2008.

Tangail-8 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 137):
Tangail-8 comprises Basail and Sakhipur upazilas and has 414,826 voters, including 206,623 men, 208,198 women, and five hijra voters.

Candidates: 
Six candidates are contesting: Md Nazmul Hasan of the Jatiya Party (plough), Awal Mahmud of Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party (spade), Ahmed Azam Khan of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Md Alamgir Hossain of Amjanatar Dal (butterfly), Md Shafiqul Islam Khan of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (scales), and Salahuddin Alamgir (independent – deer).

Elected MPs: 
In 1991, Humayun Khan Panni of BNP was elected. Abdul Kader Siddique of the Awami League won in 1996 and again in 2001. In the 1999 by-election, Shawkat Momen Shahjahan of the Awami League was elected, and he again won the seat in 2008.
