Barguna, a key coastal district in Bangladesh’s Barishal Division, is known as an important river port, an administrative hub, and a major centre for hilsa production. As one of the country’s largest fisheries zones, the district exports a significant volume of fish both domestically and internationally every year. Barguna has a total of two parliamentary constituencies.

Barguna-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 109):
Barguna-1 comprises Amtali Upazila, Taltali Upazila, and Barguna Sadar Upazila. The constituency has a total of 519,460 voters, including 259,098 male voters and 260,351 female voters. There are also 11 transgender voters.

Candidates: Four candidates are contesting in this constituency. Md Nazrul Islam Mollah is running from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Md Jahangir Hossain of Khelafat Majlish is contesting with the Wall Clock symbol. Md Ali Ullah from Islami Andolan Bangladesh is running with the Hand Fan symbol. Jatiya Party–JP candidate Md Jamal Hossain is contesting with the Bicycle symbol.

Elected MPs: In past elections, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu of the Awami League was elected in the 1991 parliamentary election and again in the February and June 1996 elections. In the 2001 election, independent candidate Delwar Hossain won the seat. According to the latest available information, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu regained the seat for the Awami League in the 2008 election.

Barguna-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 110): Barguna-2 consists of Bamna Upazila, Patharghata Upazila, and Betagi Upazila. The constituency has a total of 337,744 voters, including 167,965 male voters and 169,775 female voters. There are four registered transgender voters.

Candidates: A total of nine candidates are contesting in this constituency. Md Nurul Islam is running from the BNP with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Md Mizanur Rahman of Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol. Md Sabbir Ahmed of Bangladesh Congress is running with the Coconut symbol. Md Kamruzzaman Liton of Bangladesh Jatiya Party is contesting with the Jackfruit symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Abdul Latif Faraji is running with the Plough symbol. Syed Md Najes Afroze of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) is contesting with the Lion symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Dr Sultan Ahmed is running with the Scales symbol. Md Solaiman of the National Peoples Party (NPP) is contesting with the Mango symbol. Independent candidate Md Rashed Uj Jaman is running with the Ship symbol.

Elected MPs: In the 1991 parliamentary election, independent candidate Nurul Islam Moni was elected from this constituency. In June 1996, Golam Sarwar Hero of Islami Oikya Jote won the seat. Nurul Islam Moni returned to parliament in 2001 as a BNP candidate. According to the latest available data, Golam Sabur Tulu of the Awami League won the seat in the 2008 election.
