In Jamalpur district, the Awami League and the BNP have historically remained almost evenly matched in electoral contests. This pattern has been evident in most national elections held in the country, except for the last three. However, with the Awami League not participating in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the electoral landscape in Jamalpur has shifted significantly. This time, the main contest is expected to be between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Below is an overview of the five parliamentary constituencies in Jamalpur district.

Jamalpur-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 138) :
Jamalpur-1 comprises Dewanganj and Bakshiganj upazilas. The constituency has a total of 431,707 voters, including 216,207 male voters and 215,498 female voters, along with two registered third-gender voters.

Candidates: 
Four candidates are contesting in this seat. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque is contesting from the Jatiya Party with the Plough symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Muhammad Nazmul Haque Saeedi is running with the Scales symbol. Md Abdul Rauf Talukdar of Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol. BNP candidate M Rashiduzzaman Millat is in the race with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.


Elected MPs: In the 1991 election, Awami League candidate Abul Kalam Azad was elected MP, and he retained the seat in the June 1996 election. In 2001, BNP’s M Rashiduzzaman Millat won the seat. In 2008, Abul Kalam Azad of the Awami League was re-elected.

Jamalpur-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 139) : 
Jamalpur-2 consists of Islampur upazila alone. The constituency has 282,103 voters, including 144,469 men and 137,633 women, along with one registered third-gender voter.

Candidates:
Three candidates are contesting. BNP’s A.E. Sultan Mahmud Babu is running with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Shamimul Haque is contesting with the Scales symbol. Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Sultan Mahmud is in the race with the Hand Fan symbol.

Elected MPs:
In 1991 and June 1996, Awami League candidate Rashed Mosharraf won the seat. In 2001, BNP’s Sultan Mahmud Babu was elected MP. In 2008, Awami League candidate Faridul Haque Khan won the constituency.

Jamalpur-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 140) : 
Jamalpur-3 comprises Madarganj and Melandaha upazilas, along with Madarganj, Melandaha and Hajrabari municipalities. The constituency has 539,504 voters, including 274,257 men, 265,241 women and six third-gender voters.

Candidates: 
A total of nine candidates are contesting. Fidel Naim of Ganosanghati Andolan is contesting with the Headgear symbol. Independent candidates Shiblul Bari Raju (Sunflower), Farzana Farid (Football), and Md Sadikur Rahman (Cup and Saucer) are also in the race. Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Mohammad Daulatuzzaman Ansari is running with the Hand Fan symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Mujibur Rahman Azad is contesting with the Scales symbol. BNP candidate Md Mostafizur Rahman Babul is running with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Mir Shamsul Alam is contesting with the Plough symbol, while Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate Liton Mia is running with the Truck symbol.


Elected MPs: In the 1991 and June 1996 elections, Awami League candidate Mirza Azam won the seat. He was re-elected again in both the 2001 and 2008 elections as an Awami League candidate.

Jamalpur-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 141) :
Jamalpur-4 consists of Sarishabari upazila and Titpalla and Mesta unions of Jamalpur Sadar upazila. The constituency has a total of 304,992 voters, including 151,527 men, 153,464 women and one third-gender voter.

Candidates:
Six candidates are contesting. Md Mahbub Jaman Jewel of the Communist Party of Bangladesh is contesting with the Sickle symbol. Md Iqbal Hossain of Gono Odhikar Parishad is running with the Truck symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mohammad Abdul Awwal is contesting with the Scales symbol. Md Kabir Hasan of Nagorik Oikya is running with the Kettle symbol. Md Ali Akbar of Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol. BNP candidate Md Faridul Kabir Talukdar is running with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.


Elected MPs: In 1991, BNP candidate Abdus Salam Talukdar was elected MP. In June 1996, Awami League candidate Md Nurul Islam won the seat. In 2001, BNP’s Anwarul Kabir Talukdar was elected, while in 2008, Awami League candidate Murad Hasan won the constituency.

Jamalpur-5 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 142): 
Jamalpur-5 comprises 15 unions of Jamalpur Sadar upazila, including Kendua, Sharifpur, Lakshmirchar, Tulshirchar, Itail, Narundi, Ghoradhap, Bashchara, Ranagachha, Shreepur, Shahbazpur, Digpait, Rashidpur, Titpalla and Mesta. The constituency has 576,810 voters, including 281,747 men, 295,053 women and 10 third-gender voters.

Candidates: 
Eight candidates are contesting. BNP’s Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun is running with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Abu Sayeem Mohammad Sa’adat-ul Karim of Bangladesh Congress is contesting with the Coconut Tree symbol. Md Babar Ali Khan of Jatiya Party (JP) is running with the Bicycle symbol. Zakir Hossain of Gono Odhikar Parishad is contesting with the Truck symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Muhammad Abdus Sattar is running with the Scales symbol. Md Amir Uddin of JSD is contesting with the Star symbol. Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Syed Yunus Ahmad is running with the Hand Fan symbol. CPB candidate Sheikh Md Akkas Ali is contesting with the Sickle symbol.


Elected MPs: In the 1991 election, BNP candidate Sirajul Haque was elected MP. In June 1996, Awami League candidate Rezaul Karim Hira won the seat. He retained the constituency in both the 2001 and 2008 elections as an Awami League candidate.
