In national parliamentary elections, the Awami League, BNP, and local parties have traditionally maintained strong influence in Khagrachhari district. Previous elections show that indigenous communities have significant sway in this area. While the Awami League has performed slightly better in past elections, the BNP has also contested fiercely. Khagrachhari (Parliamentary Constituency No. 298):
The hill district of Khagrachhari forms the Khagrachhari parliamentary constituency. The total number of voters in this constituency is 554,119, of whom 280,206 are male voters, 273,909 are female voters, and 4 are hijra voters.

Candidates:
A total of eleven candidates are contesting in Khagrachhari constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. They are: Ushepru Marma from Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP) with the Rocket symbol; Ziruna Tripura as an independent candidate with the Kerosene Lamp symbol; Md. Ayakub Ali from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scales symbol; Dhorm Jyoti Chakma as an independent candidate with the Horse symbol; Abdul Wadud Bhunya from BNP with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol; Md. Nur Islam from Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh with the Apple symbol; Mithila Roaza from Jatiyo Party with the Plough symbol; Md. Mostafa from Bangladesh Muslim League with the Hurricane symbol; Md. Kawsar from Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol; Samiran Dewan as an independent candidate with the Football symbol; and Dinmoy Roaza from Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) with the Truck symbol.

Elected MPs: In the Khagrachhari constituency, Kalporanjan Chakma of the Awami League was elected in 1991 and 1996. Wadud Bhuiya of BNP was elected in 2001, and Jatindra Lal Tripura of the Awami League was elected in 2008.
