13th National Parliamentary Election: Moulvibazar District
In Moulvibazar district, the Awami League and BNP have historically been almost evenly matched in elections. The results of nearly all national parliamentary elections held in the country—except the last three—reflect this pattern. However, with the Awami League absent from the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the electoral dynamics in Moulvibazar have changed. This time, the main contest is expected to be between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Below is an overview of the four parliamentary constituencies in Moulvibazar district.
Moulvibazar-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 235) : Moulvibazar-1 constituency comprises Juri Upazila and Barlekha Upazila. As of January 2026, the total number of voters in this constituency is 337,816, including 172,998 male, 164,816 female, and 2 third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of six candidates are contesting in this constituency. Mohammad Aminul Islam is contesting with the Scales symbol from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Md. Abdun Noor is contesting with the Truck symbol from Gonadhikar Parishad (GOP). Nasir Uddin Ahmed is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Belal Ahmed is contesting as an independent candidate with the Cup-Pitcher symbol. Ahmed Riaz Uddin is contesting with the Plough symbol from the Jatiya Party. Md. Shariful Islam is contesting with the Fish symbol from the Gana Front.
Previous Results: In 1991, the seat was won by Jatiya Party candidate Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury. In the June 1996 election, Awami League candidate Shahab Uddin was elected. In 2001, BNP candidate Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury regained the seat. In 2008, Awami League candidate Shahab Uddin was re-elected.
Moulvibazar-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 236) : Originally, Moulvibazar-2 comprised Kulaura Upazila and certain unions of Kamalganj Upazila, but currently, it consists only of Kulaura Upazila. The total number of voters is 303,020, including 157,128 male and 145,892 female voters. There are no third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of eight candidates are contesting in this constituency. Sadia Noushin Tasnim Chowdhury is contesting with the Scissors symbol from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist). Md. Shawkatul Islam is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. M. Jimyur Rahman Chowdhury is contesting as an independent candidate with the Horse symbol. Md. Fazlul Haque Khan is contesting as an independent candidate with the Cup-Pitcher symbol. Abdul Quddus is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol from Islami Andolon Bangladesh. Md. In 2001, the seat was won by independent candidate M. M. Shahin. In 2008, Jatiya Party candidate Nawab Ali Abbas Khan regained the seat.
Moulvibazar-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 237) : Moulvibazar-3 constituency comprises Rajnagar Upazila and Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. The total number of voters is 486,212, including 248,109 male, 238,099 female, and 4 third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of four candidates are contesting. Naser Rahman is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Ahmad Bilal is contesting with the Wall Clock symbol from Khelafat Majlis. Zahor Lal Dutta is contesting with the Sickle symbol from Bangladesh Communist Party. Md. Abdul Mannan is contesting with the Scales symbol from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Previous Results: In 1991, Awami League candidate Azizur Rahman was elected. In June 1996, BNP candidate Saifur Rahman won. In the November 2001 by-election, BNP candidate M. Naser Rahman was elected. In 2008, Awami League candidate Syed Mohsin Ali regained the seat.
Moulvibazar-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 238): Moulvibazar-4 constituency comprises Srimangal Upazila and certain unions of Kamalganj Upazila. The total number of voters is 487,892, including 246,202 male, 241,688 female, and 2 third-gender voters.
Candidates:A total of six candidates are contesting. Md. Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Mohammad Zarif Hossain is contesting with the Plough symbol from Jatiya Party. Sheikh Nure Alam Hamidi is contesting with the Rickshaw symbol from Khelafat Majlis. Md. Abul Hasan is contesting with the Hoe symbol from Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BASAD). Pritam Das is contesting with the Shapla-Koli symbol from National Citizens Party (NCP). Md. Mohsin Mia is contesting as an independent candidate with the Football symbol.
Previous Results: In 1991, Awami League candidate Abdus Shahid was elected. He was re-elected in 1996, 2001, and 2008, retaining the seat for the party.
