13th National Parliamentary Election: Narsingdi District

In Narsingdi District, the contest between Awami League and BNP has historically been almost equal. In the last national elections (except the last three), similar results were observed. However, with the absence of Awami League in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, the voting scenario in Narsingdi has changed. This time, the main contest will be between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Let’s look at the five constituencies of Narsingdi District.

Narsingdi-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 199): Narsingdi-1 constituency comprises Narsingdi Sadar Upazila, excluding three unions: Amdia, Panchdona, and Meherpara. Total voters: 477,209 (243,945 male, 233,252 female, 12 hijra).

Candidates: Eight candidates are contesting: Khairul Kabir Khokon of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Hamidul Haque Parvez of Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh (apple), Md. Ibrahim Bhuiyan of Jamaat-e-Islami (balance scale), Sakhawat Hossain of Bangladesh Islami Front (candle), Mohammad Mostofa Jamal of Jatiya Party (plough), Md. Ashraf Hossain Bhuiyan of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), Shirin Akter of Gono Odhikar Parishad (truck), and Shahiduzzaman Chowdhury of Gono Forum (rising sun).

Past MPs: 1991, 1996, 2001 – Samsuddin Ahmed Eshak (BNP); 2005 by-election – Khairul Kabir Khokon (BNP); 2008 – Mohammad Nazrul Islam (Awami League).

Narsingdi-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 200): Narsingdi-2 constituency comprises Palash Upazila and the unions of Amdia, Panchdona, and Meherpara of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. Total voters: 286,218 (145,235 male, 140,978 female, 5 hijra).

Candidates: Six candidates are contesting: Md. Amzad Hossain of Jamaat-e-Islami (balance scale), Mohammad Ibrahim of Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh (apple), A.N.M. Rafiqul Alam Selim of Jatiya Party (plough), Md. Golam Sarwar of NCP (shapla flower), Dr. Abdul Moin Khan of BNP (sheaf of paddy), and Asif Iqbal of Islami Front Bangladesh (chair).

Narsingdi-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 201): Narsingdi-3 constituency comprises Shibpur Upazila. Total voters: 284,248 (142,947 male, 141,300 female, 1 hijra).

Candidates: Eight candidates are contesting: Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem Ali Pathan of Zaker Party (rose), Raihan Mia of Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh (apple), A.K.M. Rezaul Karim of Jatiya Party (plough), Manjur Elahi of BNP (sheaf of paddy), Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami (balance scale), Mohammad Rakibul Islam (Rokib) of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis (rickshaw), Md. Waiz Hossain Bhuiya of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (hand fan), and Md. Arif-ul-Islam Mridha (goose) as an independent candidate.

Maj of Jonotar Dal (pen), and Md. Jahangir Alam of Jamaat-e-Islami (balance scale).
