13th National Parliamentary Election: Noakhali District
In national parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has historically performed strongly in this district. In all elections considered relatively free and fair (excluding the 2014, 2018, and 2024 elections), BNP-backed candidates won decisively. The Awami League, however, has always provided strong competition in every constituency and has also won several seats in different elections. This time, with the Awami League absent from the race, the electoral dynamics in Noakhali have changed significantly. Let’s take a look at the election scenario in Noakhali’s six constituencies.
Noakhali-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 268): Noakhali-1 comprises Chatkhil Upazila and Sonaimuri Upazila. The total number of voters is 452,425, including 233,711 male and 218,714 female voters.
Candidates: A total of seven candidates are contesting. Md. Shaiful Ullah is contesting with the Scales symbol from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. A. M. Mahbub Uddin (Khokon) is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Md. Mashiur Rahman is contesting with the Apple symbol from Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh. Rehana Begum is contesting with the Star symbol from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD). Md. Nurul Amin is contesting with the Plough symbol from Jatiya Party. Jahirul Islam is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol from Islami Andolon Bangladesh. Md. Mominul Islam is contesting with the Coconut symbol from Bangladesh Congress.
Previous Results: In 1991, 1996, and 2001, Zainul Abdin Faruq of BNP was elected. In 2008, Mahbub Uddin Khokon of BNP was elected as Member of Parliament.
Noakhali-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 269): Noakhali-2 comprises Senbagh Upazila and three unions of Sonaimuri Upazila (Bargaon, Nateshwar, and Ambarnagar). The total number of voters is 360,081, including 186,305 male, 173,775 female, and 1 third-gender voter.
Candidates: A total of five candidates are contesting. Kazi Mohammad Mofizur Rahman is contesting as an independent candidate with the Cup and Saucer symbol. Zainul Abdin Faruq is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Md. Shahadat Hossain is contesting with the Plough symbol from Jatiya Party. Sultan Muhammad Zakaria Majumder is contesting with the Water Lily Bud symbol from National Citizen Party (NCP). Khalilur Rahman is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol from Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
Previous Results: In 1991 and 1996, Barkat Ullah Bulu of BNP was elected. In 2001, M. A. Hashem of BNP was elected. In 2008, Zainul Abedin Faruq of BNP was elected.
Noakhali-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 270): Noakhali-3 comprises Begumganj Upazila. The total number of voters is 511,759, including 269,886 male, 241,865 female, and 8 third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of seven candidates are contesting. Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Md. Siraj Mia is contesting with the Star symbol from JSD. Md. Rajib Uddoula Chowdhury is contesting as an independent candidate with the Rooster symbol. Sharif Ahmed is contesting as an independent candidate with the Football symbol. Morshed Alam is contesting with the Wall Clock symbol from Khelafat Majlis. Md. Borhan Uddin is contesting with the Scales symbol from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Noakhali-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 271) : Noakhali-4 comprises Subarnachar Upazila and Noakhali Sadar Upazila. The total number of voters is 700,339, including 366,659 male, 333,677 female, and 3 third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of seven candidates are contesting. Md. Ishaq Khandaker is contesting with the Scales symbol from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Md. Yunus Nabi is contesting with the Apple symbol from Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh. Md. Shariful Islam is contesting with the Plough symbol from Jatiya Party. Md. Shahjahan is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol from BNP. Md. Firoz Alam Masud is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol from Islami Andolon Bangladesh. Noakhali-5 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 272) : Noakhali-5 comprises Companiganj Upazila and Kabirhat Upazila. The total number of voters is 503,851, including 261,779 male and 242,072 female voters.
Candidates: A total of eleven candidates are contesting. Mun Tahar Begum is contesting with the Scissors symbol from Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist). Abu Naser is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol from Islami Andolon Bangladesh. Mohammad Shamsuddoha is contesting with the Chair symbol from Islamic Front Bangladesh. Mohammad Yunus is contesting as an independent candidate with the Football symbol. Mohammad Anisul Haque is contesting with the Elephant symbol from Bangladesh Republican Party (BRP). Noakhali-6 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 273): Noakhali-6 comprises Hatiya Upazila. The total number of voters is 339,185, including 178,309 male, 160,874 female, and 2 third-gender voters.
Candidates: A total of ten candidates are contesting. Amirul Islam Mohammad Abdul Malek is contesting with the One-Stringed Instrument (Ektara) symbol from Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP).
